I currently work in Human Resources within the healthcare sector, focusing on recruitment and onboarding. My company supports healthcare professionals who care for patients with kidney-related conditions. In my role, I collaborate closely with the HR team to onboard nurses and technicians. This work is significant, as healthcare remains one of the most vital pillars of our society, and those who deliver that care deserve strong support, recognition, and value.

Working in healthcare human resources has a tangible impact on the professionals we hire, patients, and the community. Patients receive care from trained, caring individuals placed where they're most needed. Healthcare workers benefit by finding job opportunities that match their skills and offer room to grow, all while being supported in a safe, well-run environment. When hospitals and clinics are fully staffed and operating smoothly, the community feels its public health strengthens, and more people can get the care they need.

This field tremendously impacts the local, national, and global communities. Locally, it helps hospitals and clinics have the right people to care for patients in their communities. A good onboarding process ensures new employees feel ready and supported. More importantly, having trained and prepared healthcare workers means hospitals can handle everyday checkups, big emergencies, and everything in between. By making people feel welcomed and valued in their jobs, a good onboarding process significantly reduces turnover, providing stability to the workforce and ensuring a real difference can be made.

Globally, healthcare talent acquisition contributes to international partnerships and the sharing of knowledge and skills, especially when healthcare workers move across borders to serve where they're needed most. Firm healthcare staffing impacts public health, economic stability, and even global cooperation during crises like pandemics. In my current role, my goal is to help create a more efficient and supportive hiring process that prioritizes the well-being of a healthcare worker. While ensuring patient care is never compromised. Looking into the future, I hope to grow into a leadership role where I can develop a talent acquisition team within the healthcare field.​

One major problem I've identified in this field is the increasing impact of new laws and budget cuts in healthcare, which are reducing staffing budgets and limiting resources for recruitment and retention. Within the past four months, the hiring market has become more challenging in hiring qualified healthcare professionals. This has led to staff shortages, burnout, and decreased quality of patient care. As budget cuts tighten, Human Resource teams are being asked to do more with less, which puts even more strain on the healthcare system.

New economic laws have reduced federal funding for healthcare, putting hospitals and clinics in a tight spot. The rising healthcare costs have only added to the financial pressure on these organizations. Many facilities are being forced to make drastic cuts, including laying off entire Human Resources departments. However, there is hope. By implementing better hiring practices and offering higher compensation, we can ensure that our healthcare workers feel valued and motivated to stay.

If we don't do something, more healthcare workers will leave, worsening things. But there's a solution. Better hiring and higher compensation will ensure employees feel valued.
One insight I have is the importance of speaking up in meetings concerning the change in Partnerships between healthcare organizations and local schools, colleges, and universities. If we build a pipeline for students to enter healthcare careers, we can create a steady flow of new talent. I plan to work with educational institutions to create internships, mentorships, and career development programs that make it easier for students to enter healthcare. This will help reduce staffing shortages over time by encouraging young people to pursue careers in healthcare. Organizations must invest in keeping their existing employees instead of focusing only on onboarding and hiring new staff members. I will advocate for benefits and better pay. In contrast, working to improve work-life balance policies, flexible scheduling, and paid time off is essential.

The power of community involvement within healthcare organizations is often overlooked. With the potential of community partnerships and assisting in solving staffing and onboarding issues, I will work to build relationships with the community and nonprofit organizations. This will encourage and help create programs that drive individuals to pursue healthcare careers. This can also include tuition reimbursements and scholarship programs. I will also make sure transportation is feasible for new employees.

Ultimately, healthcare will always be an essential part of our world. We're dealing with problems like insufficient staff and workers getting too tired or stressed. We can fix these issues by improving how we hire, making better programs to help new workers get started, and giving more support to healthcare workers. I want to ensure hospitals are located and that the right staff are kept. By working together and making new, innovative changes, we will create a healthcare system that ensures patients are our top priority.
